UK PREMIERE Screening: Faith Without Fear – FULLY BOOKED

Screening Monday 21st January, 2008

Irshad Manji is the best selling author of The Trouble with Islam Today: A Muslim’s Call for Reform in her Faith and a prominent commentator on issues affecting Muslims – most recently the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. In Faith Without Fear she asks how can Muslims change for the 21st century?

Her journey takes her from the conservative Islam of Yemen, where she meets Osama bin Laden’s former bodyguard, to Spain where different cultures and religions flourished under Muslim civilisation.

She also seeks to reconcile her liberal approach to Islam with her more conservative mother and challenges conventional views on Islam, which has led to confrontations with Islamic clerics in her native Canada.

Faith Without Fear presents a personal account of a modern Muslim woman looking to balance religion and life in the 21st century.

Irshad Maji is a senior research fellow at the European Foundation for Democracy in Brussels
