Screening: Citizen Black

Screening Sunday 15th April, 2007

Citizen Black is a portrait of controversial newspaper publisher Conrad Black, now being tried for fraud, obstructing the course of justice and racketeering.

Documentary filmmaker Debbie Melnyk follows the embattled media baron, Lord Black of Crossharbour, during the most tumultuous period of his life – the year he loses his newspaper empire and is accused of racketeering by his New York shareholders.

This is an entertaining portrait of a man who is emblematic of our times: the corporate charleton and Fifth Amendment capitalist. Along with his wife, newspaper commentator Barbara Amiel-Black, they were international highflighers, until the scandal broke.
