An intimate account of the life of one of the world’s most revered political figures, this feature-length biography follows Nelson Mandela from his early days as the son of a tribal chief through to his election as South Africa’s first black president.
Produced by Jonathan Demme and nominated for the 1997 Academy Award for Best Documentary, the film features exclusive interviews and narration from Nelson Mandela. An absorbing account of Nelson Mandela‘s early life, his law career and first marriage, as well as his role in the African National Congress and transformation into a freedom fighter against Apartheid before his imprisonment in 1964. 
The film reflects both the courage and fortitude of Nelson Mandela the leader and the engaging and charismatic spirit of Nelson Mandela the man.
