Preview Screening: Up the Yangtze

Screening Thursday 24th July, 2008

A luxury cruise boat motors up the Yangtze — navigating the mythic waterway known in China simply is “The River.” The Yangtze is about to be transformed by the biggest hydroelectric dam in history.

The Three Gorges Dam — contested symbol of the Chinese economic miracle — provides the epic backdrop for Up the Yangtze, a dramatic feature documentary on life inside the 21st century Chinese dream.

Chinese-Canadian filmmaker Yung Chang crafts a moving depiction of peasant life, a powerful narrative of contemporary China, and a disquieting glimpse into a future that awaits us all.

Length: 93 mins
Written and Directed by Yung Chang
Produced by EyeSteelFilm in a co-production with the National Film Board of Canada.

New event pricing: As of July 1st the Frontline Charitable Trust will increase ticket prices for all events. Screenings will now cost £8 and discussions £10. The Frontline Club Charitable Trust is uniquely supported by the Frontline restaurant on the ground floor, club membership fees and the purchase of event tickets. Since we first opened in 2003 we have organised almost 1000 events.

We hope we can count on your continued support which enables us to sustain the number of events and the quality of debate. We remain committed to independent journalism.
