A fictionalised account of the experiences of Kathryn Bolkovac – a Nebraska policewoman serving as a peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia who uncovered a sex trafficking scandal and exposed U.N attempts to cover it up.

Embroiled in a vicious custody battle with her ex-husband, Bolkovac, who is played by Rachel Weisz, seizes the opportunity to make a quick, tax free $100,000 by serving as a U.N peacekeeper in Bosnia.

Shortly after her arrival she finds herself promoted to the U.N gender office by thew head of the Human Rights Commission.

While studying sexual assault cases, Bolkovac discovers that her colleagues and other U.N officials are involved in a human-trafficking ring leading to a tense race to uncover the truth. During the ensuing controversy Bolkovac herself becomes the target of both the system in which she works and those who occupy the positions of power within that system.
