Insight with Lt Col Stuart Tootal and Patrick Bishop: Can the British win in Afghanistan?

Commander of 3 Para Battle Group in Afghanistan, Lt Col Tootal, talks about the challenges the Group faced in Helmand: the fighting and the casualties, the logistics and the ongoing fight to win ‘hearts and minds.’.
 
Lt Col Tootal OBE assumed command of 3 Para in November 2005 and commanded the 3 Para Battle Group of 1,200 personnel on the British Army’s first deployment to Helmand Province in Afghanistan between April and October 2006. He was awarded the DSO (Distinguished Service Order) for this operation.

At the end of this year Lt Col Tootal will relinquish command of 3 Para and become a full Colonel as the Chief of Staff of the newly-formed 6th (UK) Division.
