Morten Hvaal a photojournalist on the road

Morten Hvaal was born in Norway in 1963 and spent a few years there trying to compensate for his lack of skiing skills by pursuing photography. He left for good upon realising that local conditions vastly favour skiers. Now based in Sri Lanka, where conditions are even less favourable for photographers, Morten has lived and worked in more than a dozen conflict zones since pre-historic (read: pre-digital) times, starting in the early eighties. After many years as a freelance conflict-zone ambulance-chaser for the Associated Press he now tries to work at a more dignified pace and is represented by Rapport Press New York.
