The Birmingham of Kenya

| 5

The road into Thika stretched before us. The hot, noon sun made the air shimmer above the Tarmac and to one side the first Jacarandas of the season were bursting into colour. An occasional flame tree added a dash of scarlet to the dusty green acacias that lined the verge. Pineapple orchards filled the hills all around. Not once, if memory serves, was I minded to think of Birmingham - although it is quite a long time since I've been there.

Hi Rob

Having been to Thika about a year ago and to Birmingham about 6 months ago, I can say categorically that there is not even the vaguest resemblence.

And frankly, if I had to choose between the two ... hmmm ... nope, Thika wins, hands down.

The Bull Ring is nice these days. And I bet Thika doesn't have more canals than Venice. Nor can it boast of being the home of Cadbury's, HP Sauce and UB40

Steve, you sound just like my mum, who constantly bangs on about what a great place Birmingham is... yet left at the first opportunity.
