Fred Robarts is a human security consultant* who lived in the DRC from 2006-2008 and is now based in London. As an occasional freelance journalist, Fred has contributed to The Financial Times, The Guardian (Comment is Free), Art Review, Time Out (London) and Global Voices Online.* i.e. interested in comprehensive approaches to security that pay greater attention to the perspectives and interests of individuals and communities, in addition to the more conventional focus on states, armed groups and business elites. The choice to elevate rather than sideline humanitarian and human rights concerns (sometimes referred to as 'the human dimension') is pragmatic as well as principled, and as relevant to effective analysis and reporting on conflict as it is to any intervention with the ambition of improving safety and security.
