UK Premiere Screening: American Jihadist
Screenings
Date: April 23, 2010 7:00 PM
What goes through the mind of a Jihadist from America's capital? American Jihadist explores militant Islam through the eyes of Isa Abdullah Ali - aka Clevin Raphael Holt - who fought in Lebanon and Bosnia for six years for what he calls "the pleasure of God by taking a stand to help the ill treated and oppressed"
Followed by a Q&A with Writer/Producer Jody Jenkins
Winner of the 2010 Slamdance Grand Jury Award for Best Documentary.
By examining one man's decision to fight for his religion, American Jihadist asks what role violence and a lack of hope play in the development of radicalism. What makes someone willing to pick up a gun for their religion? Are the underlying causes purely religious? Or might religious militancy be a response to chronic social, economic and political issues? And what do the answers mean for the wider Islamic World?
