"An outstanding film. It's superb, period." - Nicholas Kristof, The New York Times
An extraordinarily powerful and original film, The Devil Came on Horseback exposes the tragedy taking place in Darfur as seen through the eyes of an American witness.
Using the photographs and first-hand testimony of former U.S. Marine Captain Brian Steidle, this documentary takes the viewer on an emotional journey into the heart of Darfur where an Arab-run government is attempting to systematically rid the province of its black Africans.
As a military observer, Steidle had access to parts of the country that no journalist could reach.
Ultimately Steidle became frustrated with the inaction of the international community, resigned and returned to the US to expose the images and stories of lives systematically destroyed.
Sundberg and Stern's film details Steidle's transition from soldier to observer to witness and, finally, to passionate activist and moral hero.
